Featured in National Post: Embracing Compassion with Special Bracelet

Wear a bracelet, and spread a little kindness. That’s what Vancouver real estate advisor Karim Virani and his daughter, Alyssa decided to do recently, when the two launched the Human-Kind bracelet in their neighbourhood, with 100% of the profits from each bracelet sold going directly towards feeding a household in need in British Columbia’s North Shore area.

The two worked in partnership with the North Shore Family Services, Harvest Project and The Lookout Shelter and, within three short months, the sale of the bracelet has provided more than 1,000 meals for those in need. The take-out meals are provided by Vancouver’s Earl’s Kitchen & Bar and are delivered through North Shore Family Services.

“The COVID-19 pandemic created a different reality for many in our community,” said Karim Virani, founder of Virani Real Estate Advisors in a recent media release. “Too many families found themselves being pushed to the edge of their financial means and beyond. Seeing this, we couldn’t stand idly by. We founded Human-Kind, a movement that encourages and celebrates the power of spreading kindness in our community by supporting those struggling with food insecurity.”

It’s a given people wear jewelry for a variety of reasons, not only to accessorize but to symbolize something personal. The Human-Kind bracelet, which retails for $30, is symbolic in its messaging, and those who wear it know someone has been fed because of the purchase.

“Plus the Human-Kind bracelets are handmade by volunteers out of sourced material from Canada’s West Coast. They feature black ironwood or ebony and white beads made from howlite, which can be found in Canada and is believed to aid in meditation, promote serenity and help relieve stress.

“With the help of our Human-Kind volunteers, we created these locally-sourced bracelets as a constant reminder to spread kindness,” added Alyssa Virani, in a media release. “It was designed to reflect our community,” which is national in scope, given every corner of the country is currently under the stresses of the global pandemic.
